Much like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) boarding schools, ADHD summer camps offer a chance for children with such a disorder to be part of an experience which will allow them to grow into better students and better individuals. These summer camps offer opportunities for those with ADHD to excel in areas of academics and social life, things that can often be difficult for those with a neurological disorder like ADHD. As with boarding schools specializing in similar practices (although they are all year long), ADHD summer camps come in a wide range of shapes and sizes so any age child can feel comfortable in such an environment. Summer camps for those with ADHD may run somewhat expensive, but when attending a summer camp could mean the difference between your child becoming a better citizen or a neurological nightmare, then price should be no problem. Furthermore, many ADHD summer camps offer great financial aid plans comparable to those offered by universities and high end boarding schools.

One of the most popular ADHD summer camps is the Talisman Summer Camp. This is a camp based out of North Carolina and is accredited by the American Camp Association. They have separate camps for those with ADHD and attention deficit disorder (ADD) as well as other childhood neurological diseases like high functioning autism and Asperger’s Syndrome. They provide children ages eight to twenty one with over one hundred and seventy acres in the western North Carolina mountains. At the Talisman ADHD summer camps, kids are broken into groups based on their age and which program they wish to do. Younger children can engage in programs designed to get them used to the environment or prepare them for things they will soon learn in school. For adolescents, there are pioneer activities and exploration programs so they can alternate between the classroom and the site. Finally, for teenagers, Talisman ADHD summer camps offer a

variety of land and water based expeditions to teach kids how to hike, mountain climb, swim and sail. People have the option of enrolling in either co-ed or individual gender programs, whichever suits the child’s and the parents’ needs. The California SOAR (Success Oriented Achievement Realized) ADHD summer camps are a great opportunity for children living with ADHD on the west coast. Taking place at Big Sur, this program offers a variety of beach and forest activities for children ages eleven to eighteen. They take fourteen students at a time for a ten day adventure. During their time at the SOAR ADHD summer camps, students will learn surfing, mountain biking, camping, fishing, rock climbing and kayaking. From there, the program will move to an area where the children can learn horseback riding and hiking. Finally, the group will set off to the Channel Islands just off the coast of California for two days amongst the untouched wildlife there. The tuition for the SOAR ADHD summer camps in California is two thousand three hundred dollars.
